One of my favorite, and most influential, sources of inspiration is music. Several of the short stories I’ve written were inspired by beloved songs. For longer writing projects, I often create playlists of songs that capture the emotions and energy of the story I want to tell. Sometimes I create two playlists: one of songs with lyrics, that somehow remind me of my project, and another with instrumental tracks to play while I’m writing.
But oddly enough, I’ve never created a piece of visual art inspired by a favorite song. So this week, our prompt is to choose a song to be our creative muse. Write a story inspired by the story in the song, or create a piece of visual art that captures the feeling of the music.
If you’re using these prompts for journaling and reflection, choose a favorite song and reflect on the following (as well as anything else that comes up for you, obviously).
What do you love about the song?
How does the song make you feel, emotionally and physically?
What do the lyrics mean to you, if the song has lyrics?
Do you think they mean the same thing to the songwriter as they do to you?
